Interview Event

Networking Event

I absolutely loved the PR networking event that took place on November 13th in Milwaukee. I learned so much about the PR world and what exactly goes on in different agencies. It was nice to see so many young professionals in one place all trying to help us young students figure out our path in PR. I got the chance to ask all the questions I was itching to ask and it truly helped me figure out what path I think I want to take. I asked what a typical day was like for them when they arrive and work and I learned that half of their day is writing and the other half is working with clients. I also asked if they were happy and if they thought their career would be like this. They answered with complete honestly and I loved that. I thought it was interesting how a lot of the professionals all started as PR Account Executives and now moved up in their companies to Account Managers and other positions. It’s great to hear that the PR world has room to excel and grow because I want a career that’s going to challenge me and have options for me to move up. Events like these are so important because it’s a chance to ask the questions you want, network, and truly build some great connections. I already have all three of my interviewers/interviewees on LinkedIn and have actually exchanged some messages! One of the young professionals I met said she would give me contact information for the head PR director at a major hospital in Milwaukee that I want to work at someday.  If this event wouldn’t have taken place, I never would’ve got the chance to potentially make a great connection that could lead to employment. I am so excited to see where my PR path goes, and who I all meet in the process. I hope to stay in touch with these professionals and keep them up to date on what’s happening in my career life. I actually might even get coffee at Starbucks with one of the young lady’s I met at the event! J I am truly thankful for Ann Knabe for organizing this event and making all of this happen. It turned out amazing and I am so glad I had the opportunity to be a part of this spectacular event.

  1. I have to agree with you when you said that this event really helped me figure out what path in PR I want to take. I honestly was not too interested in the agency side of Public Relations until that night! Now, I think that is the avenue I want to take. I am glad this event helped you as much as it helped me!

  2. I am glad that the event helped you figure out what you want to do with your path in PR. I was able to gain some knowledge helping me get a little closer to the path that I will want to take someday. It was during my informational interview that I found out my work history and experience will come into play depending on where I apply to.

  4. I love how excited you are about the event! I felt this experience was definitely the highlight of my college career! Your connections seemed to be very helpful; the professionals who I met with were also eager to help the students of Whitewater. I'm glad you know what directions you want to approach in PR... I, however, am still not sure!

  5. I agree! This was by far the best networking opportunity we have engaged in so far in the major. I cannot tell you how many connections I made and how willing the professionals were to share their experiences and advice with us. I was very impressed with where the professionals are today in their career and seeing how they have grown from their time at UWW.

  6. I am glad that you were able to get honest feedback from the professionals, and that you are so excited to get into the real world of PR. It is good that you like to be challenged and kept on your toes, and from what I hear about the field it sounds that that is just a given. Glad you enjoyed the event.
